Especially as a first time mom, you don’t always know what to do when your little one is in pain. All you want to do it soothe and comfort your little one. For our family, we wanted to only use only all natural options to help relieve the pain. Luckily there are many options that can help without the need for Tylenol or harmful chemical.
So when your kid is gnawing at everything in sight, you know some teeth are coming in…
Teething is no fun; for babies or for parents. You can use a frozen washcloth or frozen veges but not all kids will take you up on the offer. The cold will help numb the pain and the pressure will help with inflammation. There are also safe non-toxic wooden teethers and silicone teethers available. Rubber is another safe option. Stay away from anything plastic! If you are going to get wooden, make sure it’s untreated and no paint or wax has been applied. Some oils are ok like tung oil but other oils will spoil over time. You need to do the research to see what companies coat their products with.
My top three recommendations that I swear by are:
Amber Necklaces – What is that you ask? Amber is fossilized tree resin.
How does it work? – Body heat triggers the baltic amber to release an oil that contains succinic acid, a natural anti-inflammatory which gets absorbed into your bloodstream. Now, there are no studies that prove this but tons of mom’s out there swear by these necklaces, including me! I could instantly tell when my son didn’t have his necklace on. It really helped calm him down, drool less, and he was not cranky. You want to look for raw Baltic amber with knots in between the beads. I also recommend ones that twist to lock because I had one that was a plastic clip together and my son eventually was able to rip it right off. It can be worn as a necklace but also on the wrist or wrapped around the ankle. I have heard that the light colored work better than the dark but I have not noticed any significant changes.
Babyganics Teething Pods – You can find these here and the ingredients are coconut oil, clove essential oil, and stevia.
How does it work? – Clove contains the active ingredient eugenol, which is a natural anesthetic. It helps numb and reduce pain to ease a toothache. Eugenol also has natural anti-inflammatory properties. It may reduce swelling and irritation in the affected area.
If you want to make your own teething oil, you can use clove essential oil and coconut oil. Not all oils are the same in quality. To purchase high quality oil, click here and make sure you dilute. I would recommend organic coconut oil. I like this brand and its fractionated so it won’t harden up in the winter months.
Borion – Camilia – This is a homeopathic remedy and you can find it here. There is another brand that is well known for homeopathy called Hyland’s but I am not a fan because they use lactose in their products as inactive ingredient.
Active Ingredients:
- Chamomilla 9C HPUS ā Relieves teething pain accompanied by irritability
- Phytolacca decandra 5C HPUS ā Relieves painful gums
- Rheum 5C HPUS ā Relieves minor digestive disorders associated with teething
Inactive Ingredients:
- Alcohol
- Purified water
As I am writing this post, I happen to come across this rubber teether that contained baltic amber! It seems pretty cool but I have not tried it out. Let me know in the comments if you want me to review any other products or if any of these products worked for you!
